Can bbq sauce really be white? It sure can if you’re from Alabama. One taste and you’ll be sold on it. Best of all, it doesn’t require any cooking.

If you’re wondering what White BBQ Sauce is, we can tell you two things: you’re not alone, and you’re not from Alabama. Less popular than the standard tomato-based bbq sauce, White BBQ Sauce has its roots in Decatur, Alabama in the 1920s. It has a cult following in the south, but definitely isn’t as prevalent elsewhere.
So what is it? It’s a mayo-based bbq sauce that’s white and completely addicting on chicken wings. A bbq sauce made out of mayonnaise may sound heavy and cloying, but there is plenty of tang in this sauce to balance the creamy mayo.
To give it a robust tangy bbq flavor we add a combination of vinegar, mustard, lemon juice and horseradish. Then we add a little honey to balance all the flavors. It’s creamy, tangy and zippy all at the same time. We love this sauce slathered on wings, but think of it like ranch…it’s good on everything.
