Find out how long to cook chicken wings using all of the most common cooking methods, like baking, deep-frying, grilling, air-frying, and more.
There are plenty of different methods for cooking chicken wings. Some are pretty fast, like deep-frying or grilling, while others, like using the slow cooker are, well, slower. Whether you’ve already got your method picked out and just need to know how long to cook the wings, or if you’re trying to find out which method will best fit in with your schedule, we’re got the info here for you.
How Long To Bake Chicken Wings
If you’re planning to bake your chicken wings, it will take about 1 hour and 20 minutes with my method for extra crispy wings.
You start with 30 minutes at 250°F to dry out the wings. Then, raise the heat to 425°F and let them continue to bake for another 40-50 minutes until they are cooked through and the skin is crispy.
How Long To Deep-Fry Chicken Wings
If you’re really serious about your wings, you may want to deep fry them! You will need to heat a pot of oil to 350°F but then it only takes 8-10 minutes to fry each batch of wings.
How Long To Grill Chicken Wings
When the weather is nice out, grilling your wings is a great option that will take around 20 minutes of cooking.
You want to grill them over direct heat that is medium-high, around 350°F. I like to leave the lid closed for the first few minutes of cooking and then open the lid to flip and move them around. After 15 minutes of cooking, check a few wings to see if they are cooked through. You can toss them in sauce once they are cooked and slightly charred.
How Long To Air Fry Chicken Wings
Air-frying chicken wings will take about 30 minutes, making it a good in-between between deep frying and baking them.
You’ll want to preheat your air fryer to 360°F and make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket. Work in batches if you’re cooking more than can comfortably fit. Cook wings for 12 minutes, then flip over and cook for another 12 minutes. Next, increase the heat to 400°F to really crisp them and cook for about another 5 minutes.
How Long To Cook Wings In The Instant Pot
If you’re looking to pressure cook wings in the Instant Pot, it will take around 35 minutes of total cooking time.
You’ll set the Instant Pot to cook on high for just 6 minutes. But remember, depending on the size of your pressure cooker it will take around 10-15 minutes to come up to pressure before it starts that 6 minute timer. You’ll then want to let it natural release for 10 minutes before releasing the rest of the pressure. Then, because they don’t come out of the Instant Pot crispy, I like to put them under the broiler for a few minutes to finish up.
How Long To Cook Wings In The Slow Cooker
Slow cooking chicken wings will take 2 hours on high or 3-4 hours on low. I also like to finish these off under the broiler for a few minutes to crisp them up a little.
Put your chicken wings in the slow cooker and pour your sauce over them. Then you can let them slow cook for hours without having to worry about them! Check that they are cooked through and then put them on a baking sheet and broil them in the oven for a few minutes.
How Long To Sous Vide Chicken Wings
Sous vide is a cooking system where you put your food in a sealed bag and cook it slowly in a water bath. Chicken wings get wonderfully tender in 2 hours with this hands-off method.
Preheat your water bath to 156°F, or 140°F if you like them with a little more bite. Seal your wings in a bag and let them cook for 2 hours. Then toss your sous vide wings with sauce and put them under the broiler for a few minutes.
