A delicious, extra-creamy, protein-rich dip! Cottage cheese and avocado are pureed together with classic guacamole ingredients.
Adding cottage cheese to your guacamole gives it a great taste and adds protein to this delicious snack. I prefer to puree the cottage cheese for the perfect texture, but you can simply mix it all up. It’s delicious with tortilla chips, but you could serve this creamy dip with fresh veggies instead.

Using Cottage Cheese
Adding cottage cheese to your guacamole gives some added creaminess, a subtle cheesy flavor, and just a touch of tang. But it also gives this great dip added protein!
Cottage cheese is a great addition to a lot of recipes like my Cottage Cheese Chicken Salad and my Green Goddess Salad Dressing. Whether you’re looking to add creaminess with less fat or when you just want to up the protein, it’s a great choice.
Mixing vs. Pureeing
Lots of cottage cheese avocado dips and guacamole recipes simply have you stir in the cottage cheese to the mashed avocado. This works fine if you’re in a rush or don’t want to dirty your blender.
But it’s so much better when you whip up the cottage cheese in a food processor or blender before adding it to the other ingredients. It gives you the perfect texture that’s so light and smooth, truly silky. I do this when making Cottage Cheese Avocado Toast too.
Substitutions
I really like this guacamole recipe from Downshiftology but had to make some important changes to make it work with the added cottage cheese.
For instance, the reason this guacamole recipe has lemon pepper and tomato powder instead of lemon juice or lime juice and fresh tomato is that sometimes cottage cheese can curdle when mixed with something acidic. This way, no matter what brand of cottage cheese you have, it won’t curdle.
Now, while I love the tomato powder and the savory tomato taste that it adds, it is an ingredient that you likely don’t already have on hand (find it on Amazon here). I only use a small amount for this recipe and it is optional.
If you don’t have lemon pepper seasoning on hand, you can substitute in coriander or sumac, both of which have that citrus flavor. You could also use a small amount of crystallized lime, like True Lime, but you’d only want to use about 1/8 of a teaspoon.
Using dry ingredients also makes it easier to quickly throw together, just like with my guacamole seasoning blend recipe. You could absolutely use that seasoning here as well along with the avocados and cottage cheese. It has onion and garlic powder and other dried versions of the fresh ingredients below.
I just know you’re going to love this delicious guacamole dip!
