Why Use Ground Turkey?
Ground turkey is lower in saturated fat than ground beef, so many consider ground turkey meat to be the healthier choice. However, if not cooked properly the turkey can end up dry and less flavorful than beef. How To Make Ground Turkey Tacos
Heat the oil in a medium pan over medium-high heat on the stove. Add the ground turkey and break into crumbles with a wooden spoon. Cook and occasionally stir until the turkey is well browned, about 10-12 minutes.
Stir in your taco seasoning and the chicken stock. You can either use a packet of store-bought seasoning or make your own homemade taco seasoning. (This chicken taco seasoning mix is also delicious.) Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat and let simmer for two minutes. If for some reason you have extra liquid in the pan, you can sprinkle in 1/4 teaspoon of cornstarch while boiling to help the sauce thicken up.
Serve the ground turkey taco meat in warmed taco shells with your favorite taco toppings. Keep it simple with lettuce, tomato, and some shredded cheese. Take it to the next level with sour cream, salsa, or guacamole along with a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Let me know in the comments your favorite way to serve this ground turkey taco recipe.
Heating Up Taco Shells
I used hard taco shells for my turkey tacos, but you could also use soft corn or flour tortillas. Heating soft corn tortillas in the oven works great for me and is easier than warming them individually in a skillet. For an even easier option, you can warm flour tortillas in the microwave with a damp paper towel.
Here’s a tip for your hard taco shells though. Follow the suggested time and temperature on your package but when baking, nest the ends of the taco shells together, which will keep them from collapsing on themselves in the oven. The one that wasn’t nested is almost completely closed at the top, and the one nested stays open.
