Why Make Whipped Cottage Cheese?
There’s a big cottage cheese trend going on right now, and it’s probably because cottage cheese is high in protein and, depending which version you buy, lower in calories, while tasting really delicious. I include it in a variety of recipes like my Cottage Cheese Chicken Salad and this amazing Green Goddess Salad Dressing.
When you whip it like this, it becomes really smooth similar to whipped ricotta and is an amazing dip or spread. If you’re not a fan of cottage cheese because of the curds, you may just end up loving the creamy texture after whipping. Plus, it’s so versatile with how you can serve and enjoy it.
What Kind Of Cottage Cheese To Use?
You can use full fat or a lighter version. The full fat cottage cheese has a rounder, better flavor when whipped, but adding the olive oil helps.
I’ll also say that I have enjoyed whipped cottage cheese when made with some brands of cottage cheese more than others. My favorite so far has been the low-fat Daisy brand. It’s just really really creamy. Some brands are drier than others and the resulting dip is still smooth but just not as rich and creamy tasting.
Serving Creamy Whipped Cottage Cheese
It’s a great savory dip, for sure, for fresh veggies, pita bread, or crackers. It pairs wonderfully with air fryer blistered shishito peppers.
But it’s also amazing as a spread on fresh bread, you can even mix in air fryer sun-dried tomatoes. Try it on your morning bagel instead of cream cheese or spread it on toast and top with avocado slices.
It’s also lovely as a dessert topping if you want to take it in a sweet direction. You’ll skip the chili oil for that of course, and dollop it onto a slice of pie or onto fresh fruit, perhaps with a drizzle of honey.
Add-Ins For Whipped Cottage Cheese
This creamy whipped cottage cheese makes a delicious base for a variety of flavors. You can stir in or top with fresh herbs like basil, parsley, or dill. Try adding in lemon juice and zest for a bright taste.
You can also mix in a seasoning blend like Everything Bagel seasoning or Pizza seasoning with delicious herbs and spices.
I love topping mine with a homemade chili oil which is what is shown in my pictures. It’s the perfect amount of heat to contrast the creamy cottage cheese. I have a post coming all about that but here’s how to make it. You’ll heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium low heat, then add 2 cloves minced garlic and 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes. Cook, stirring often, until garlic is softened. Drizzle the oil mixture over the whipped cottage cheese and get ready to enjoy your new favorite snack.
You can skip the oil, garlic, and red pepper flake topping and/or add the garlic and red pepper flakes directly to the blender.
